Abstract:—Dueing travels through southern Peru in August 1982 the author and Dr. Ernst Vitek, University of Vienna, found two populations of tillandsias in the valley of the RIo Pachachaca southwest of the city of Abancay. The plants, which were covering large parts of very steep rock walls (fig. 4), reminded us of Tittandsia paleacea but differed so markedly that we could not name them right off. Now, after nearly ten years of cul tivation, it is evident that the characters exhibited in the field are stable, genetically fixed, and not ecological modifications. The great similarity in the features of the reproductive parts and the separate distribution area of this taxon persuade us that it is a subspecies of T paleacea
