Abstract:—In 1992 R. and K. Ehlers discovered a new species growing near Purulha, Baja Verapaz, Guatemala. lt differs from T. lampropoda by the green, dark spotted, sparesly lepidote leaves with shorter, triangular sheats; the longer scape; the much larger internodes of the flower bracts which are glabrous; the longer, narrower petals, more spreading at the tips, white, not yellow. Flowering season is two months earlier. T. verapazana is also related to T. nervata, from which it differs by the much shorter leaves (up to 25 cm), the distinct and almost black sheats, the longer (20 cm) and broader (5.5 cm) spikes, the longer flower bracts with larger internodes, not lepidote, only adaxially nenred, and the longer sepals. The flowers are white, not cream.
