Abstract:—This new species was found near Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca, Mexico, at an elevation of 2000— 2400 m growing in large clusters. lt can be distinguished from T. juncea by its larger dimensions (up to 60cm height), thinner leaves with brown, not grey scales; the blades are longer and very thin; the inflorescence is long and narrow, the spikes are not digitate; the flower bracts are longer, not narrow-oval, long acuminate, prominently nerved, thinner, brown lepidote; the sepals are longer, nerved, only 1/3 connate. lt differs from T. chaetophylla by its larger size, bipinnate inflorescence with much larger, broader spikes, brown lepidote flower bracts and the less connate sepals. The plant should be cultivated under cool and humid conditions.
