Abstract:—Checklist of Bromeliaceae family in municipality of Santa Teresa, Espírito Santo, Brazil. The Brazilian Atlantic Forest is considered one of the most important tropical Forest in the world, and a priority for conservation due to high levels of species richness and endemism and pronounced deforestation. It is one the main centers of diversification of the Bromeliaceae plant family. This work presents a checklist of Bromeliaceae from Santa Teresa, Espirito Santo state, within the Atlantic Forest demain in Southeast Brazil. The checklist is based on herbarium specimens, botanical literature survey, and field observations. As results, 21 genera with 107 species are recognized, of which we present geographic distribution, photographs and conservation status of the species. An additional list of 63 excluded and doubtful taxa is presented with comments. The best represented genus is Vriesea, with 33 species, followed by Aechmea (16), Billbergia (11), Tillandsia (8), and Neoregelia (8). A total of 36 species (34%) are endemic to Espirito Santo state, mostly restricted to mountainous locality of Santa Teresa and neighboring villages. Thirty-two of those figures in the state list of threatened plant species. Compared with other floristic bromeliad inventories, this region has on of the greatest numbers of species per area. This results, associated with the high levels of endemism and endangered species, indicat the high biological importance of Santa Teresa municipality and Espirito Santo mountains.
