Abstract:—Taxonomicai and biogcographical studies of the genera Alphanes Willd, (Arecaceae) and Aechmea R. et P. (Bromeliaceac) in Lesser Antilles. Three Aiphanes species are present in this area : A.erosa Linden ex Biuret (Guadeloupe, St Vincent, Barbados), A. luciam Bailey (Dominica, Martinique, Ste, Lucia) and A. minima (Gaert) Burret, endemic to the Martinique. Five Aechmea species are in the Lesser Antilles; one, A. reclinata Sastre et Brithmer sp. nov., endemic to the Martinique, is described.
