Abstract:—In the following treatment the authors feel that they have employed a very satisfactory means of combining and correlating the field and herbarium studies of tropical plants. One contributes a knowledge of local conditions, geography, climate and history, and the characters of the plants which are lost in herbarium specimens. The other sup plies the information gained from the study of the wide range of specimens and literature to be found only in the larger herbaria, thus correlating local and general information. By keeping in close touch they are able to answer questions in a short time that would require years for either one alone.
