Diagnose: —This new species can be distinguished from O. vasconcelosianum Leme by its smaller habit when flowering (12–20 cm vs. 20–57 cm), longer and wider leaf blades (13–15 × 2 cm vs. 5–11 × 0.8–1.3 cm), margins subdensely spinulose (vs. densely spinulose), inflorescence longer (6–7 cm vs. 3–4 cm), spinulose floral bracts (vs. entire), shorter flowers (16–17 mm vs. 19–25 mm), shorter sepals (5–6 mm vs 9–10 mm), shorter (11–12 mm vs. 15–18 mm) and white petals (vs. lilac-rose). Observations: —Orthophytum santaritense is morphologically related to O. vasconcelosianum, but it differs by its smaller habit when flowering (12–20 cm vs. 20–57 cm), longer and wider leaf blades (13–15 × 2 cm vs. 5–11 × 0.8–1.3 cm), margins subdensely spinulose (vs. densely spinulose), inflorescence longer (6–7 cm vs. 3–4 cm), spinulose floral bracts (vs. entire), shorter flowers (16–17 mm vs. 19–25 mm), shorter sepals (5–6 mm vs 9–10 mm), shorter petals (11–12 mm vs. 15–18 mm), and white petals (vs. lilac-rose).Edited from : Leme et al. 2017b.
