Vriesea gruberi Ehlers[as Vriesea gruberi (Ehlers) J R Grant]

Observations: —Differs from V. hitchcockiana in
Plant not a bulbose rosette but an open rosette.
Leaves wider, green grey and very few scales.
Scape and Inflorescence erect not hanging.
Rhachis barely visible.
Flowers almost sessile, to 6cm long compared to 4cm
Floral bracts not spreading, yellow, not dark purple and waxy streaked
Petals linear or elliptic blade dark violet not purple.
