<- Neoregelia margaretae L.B.Sm.[as Neoregelia margaretae L. B. Smith in Mee]

Observations: —This species is readily distinguishable by the following combination of characters: strongly distichous stolon sheaths, bright red inflorescence bracts and numerous leaves per rosette.
There is possibly more than one clone under cultivation, and one of these was studied at SEL. Mr. Berg, who provided two plants of one of the clones, has informed that these clones came from populations in Peru (Dpto. Amazonas. Iquitos: Rio Napo and Rio Amazonas, 800 feet. Original collections by Carol Johnson) .
This clone has been treated by Harry Luther as Neoregelia rosea L. B. Smith, but that plant differs from N. rosea in that the latter species has narrow triangular foliar blades (vs. ligulate leaves in N. margaretae ) and the bracts of the stolons are distichous on a round stolon (vs. folded, covering flat stolon) .
