Vriesea splendens var. chlorostachya Oliva-Esteve  diagnose
plant ca 80–90 cm tall. leaves green, arching, forming a broad, laxly crateriform rosette; sheath elliptic, 3–4 cm wide, finely pale lepidote on both sides, yellow-green; blade 60- 70 cm long, 3–4 cm wide, narrowed toward the base, flat in the middle, lustrous green, apiculate. inflorescence: peduncle erect, 1 cm diameter, 25 cm long, with tightly sheathing green bracts; fertile part simple, 40–55 cm long, lanceolate, acuminate, compressed, green; floral bracts densely imbricate, narrow, triangular, acuminate, incurved toward apex, glabrous, green. flowers: sepals elliptic, obtuse, yellow; petals ligulate, 2–4 cm long, yellow.
