plant medium sized to large. leaves 40–50 cm long, 3–4 cm wide, ligulate; sheath narrowly elliptic, dark brown toward the base; blade spreading, involute at the tips, the upper ones broadly rounded, 4- 7 cm long, the lower green, subculate, 40 cm long appressed-lepidote. inflorescence: peduncle upright or ascending; primary bracts green in the lower half and yellow toward apex; peduncle bracts foliaceous, densely imbricate, convex; fertile part once-branched, somewhat pyramidal; floral bracts elliptic, subrounded, membranaceous. flowers: pedicel short. flowers glabrous; petals 2–3 cm long, the blades erect, yellow.
