plant epiphitic, ca 45 cm tall, propagating by stolons 10–15 cm long, ca 0.5 cm in diameter. leaves ca 15, subchartaceous, suberect, forming a narrow funnelform rosette at base, but not constricted at apex; sheath elliptic, ca 8.5 x 5.5 cm, subdensely pale-lepidote, wine colored inside; blade linear, very slightly narrowed toward base, 14–16 x 2.3–2.8 cm, entire, subdensely white-lepidote, adaxially reddish-green, adaxially wine-colored, apex rounded and minutely apiculate. inflorescence: peduncle erect, ca 30 x 0.3 cm, white-lepidote, green; peduncle bracts linear, ca 6 x 0.9 cm, apex acute and apiculate, membranaceous, dark red, white-lepidote, entire, erect, distinctly exceeding the internodes; fertile part laxly paniculate, twice-branched at base and once-branched toward apex, erect, longer than the leaves, ca 13 cm long, ca 9 cm in diameter, subdensely white-floccose except for the petals; primary bracts the basal one resembling the upper peduncle bracts but distinctly smaller, exceeding the basal peduncle, the upper ones inconspicuous, resembling the floral bracts, shorter than the basal peduncles; branches ca 10, laxly arranged, 2.5–5 cm long, subspreading, 10 to 20-flowered, basal peduncle ca 5–10 mm long, 1.5–2 mm wide, slightly complanate, green, 1–1,5 mm in diameter, nearly terete; floral bracts triangulate, acuminate, inconspicuous, shorter than the ovary, flowers ca 8 mm long, subdensely to laxly and polystichously arrranged, sessile, subdensely white-floccose except for the petals, spreading to reflexed. flowers: sepals subsymmetrical, subreniform, membranaceous, emarginate and very minutely apiculate, ca 1 x 1.5–2 mm, nearly free, green; petals obovate-spatulate, apex obtuse and slightly emarginate, 5.5 x 2.5 mm, suberect at anthesis, free, greenish-yellow, naked. stamens included; filament free or nearly so; anther ca 1.5 mm long, base sagittate, apex acute, dorsifixed near the base. pistil: style slightly exceeding the petals at anthesis stigma conduplicate-spiral, capitate, margins scalloped, yellowish-green; ovary subglobose or obovate, terete, smooth, 2–2 5 mm long, ca 2 mm in diameter, nearly black; epigynous tube lacking; placentation apical; ovules few, caudate.
