Ananas monstrosus (Carrière) L.B.Sm.  diagnose
plant without rhizomes. leaves to 1.3 m long; blade to 68 mm wide in the middle and regularly antrorse-serrate with 34 spines per 10 cm. inflorescence: peduncle short and stout; fertile part (fruiting) ovoid, 40–43 cm long, 19–23.5 cm in diameter, bearing basal slips; floral bracts inconspicuous; perianth and stamens unknown; (details largely from camargo.).
