plant epiphytic, stemless, c; 70 cm high, leaves c; 5–8 rosulate, forming a tubular utriculum. leaves linear, c; 5–7 cm wide, tip subrounded or short acute, edges sparse and minute spined, spines 1 mm long, the lower half spineless, the back insignificantly white banded; sheath indistinct, inside purple, outside white banded. inflorescence: peduncle pendulous, 60 cm long, 5 mm thick, green and white farinose, lower internodes 12 cm long, upper ones barely 5 cm long; peduncle bracts linear lanceolate, lower ones c; 16 cm long, 2 cm maximum length; upper ones 8 cm long, 15 mm wide, all papery and exceeding the internodes, soon drying; fertile part c; 12 flowered, pendulous, lax, spike, c; 12–14 cm long; rachis green erect, subangled, dense white farinose; floral bracts large, oblong, lower ones equaling or exceeding the ovary, upper ones equaling or less than, all 7 mm long, tip subrounded and mucronulate, chestnut brown when living. flowers 5 cm long, sessile; sepals almost free, subrounded c; 7 mm long, chestnut brown, outside whitish farinose, tip obtuse and emarginated mucronulate; petals linear, acutis, base with 2 ligule callouses, 4 cm long, 6 mm wide, totally green, at anthesis spirally revolute. stamens at anthesis porrect, filaments complanate, gradually narrowing towards the top, violet; anther like varnish, 10 mm long. pistil: style 33 mm long, cylindric, becoming violet, stigma three lobed; ovary subcylindric, sulcate, 10 mm long, green and dense white farinose; epigynous tube 3 mm long not at all wide; placenta joined towards the middle of the locules; ovules few, obtuse; this new species is related to b; decora poep; et endl but differs in the much larger floral bracts, looser inflorescence, much smaller peduncle bracts, also in the apex of the sepals and many other details.
