plant terrestrial, caulescent, 30–40 cm high; roots with thick terminals, rough, 5 - 5.5 mm long, x 3.5–5 mm in diam; stolons cylindrical, internodes, 1.4–3.5 mm long, x 1.9–2 cm thick. leaves not colored in herbarium specimen, covered by rounded white scales (at least in the young leaves); sheath widened, amplexicaule, 7.6–9.4 mm wide, at the base 4.6–7 mm wide, brown for the adaxial side, wine coloured in the middle part, brown to pale green for the abaxial side; blade linear, 12.8–14.1 x 0.2 cm, apex acute. inflorescence simple, terminal, exceding the leaves by ca 13 cm, generally 1 or 2 flowered (exceptionally two, from the 15 specimen examined only one had 2 flowers); peduncle slender, just exceeding the leaves; peduncle bracts ca 5 or less, the lower ones foliaceous, exceeding the internodes, the size increases toward the apex, 18.7–24(–33) x 5.6–6.8(–13) mm (or more); floral bracts red , the fertile ones 4.58 x 1.9 cm, spatulate with the apex aristate or acute. flowers: sepals united for 3/5 of their length, 5.6 cm long, lobes obtuse, yellow; petals exceding the sepals, joined for 4/5 of their length, 6.3 cm long, lobes obtuse, yellow. stamens epipetalos, free part of the filaments, 7.5 x 1 mm; anther 5 x 1.4 mm, with longitudinal dehiscence. pistil 6.2 cm long; ovary triangular, 8.4 x 2.6 mm; style filiform, 53.3 mm long; stigmas linear, papillose.
