plant stemless, growing to height of 60 cm, somewhat curved leaves forming a rosette 35 cm diam. leaves: sheath pale green, 4.2–5.5 cm wide leaf blades ligulate, 20–25 cm long, 4.3–5.5 cm wide, green above, pale green with violet colouring beneath, attenuate at apex, terminating in a twisted hard point. inflorescence: peduncle enclosed by pale green bracts which are longer than the internodes; fertile part simple, erect, to 55 cm long, rachis flexuous; floral bracts distichous, dark rose, ovate, 4.8–5.1 cm long flowers 6.5–6.7 cm long petals dark rose, exceed the sepals.
