leaves naked, linear, rigid, ½ ft; long, 1/6 in; broad, armed with small distant hooked spines. inflorescence: peduncle slender, ½ ft; long; bract-leaves long-pointed, erect, spine-margined; fertile part simple or slightly compound, 6–9 in; long; floral bracts ovate, rigid, spine-margined, ½ - 1 in; long. flowers: pedicel short; sepals oblong-lanceolate, acute, 1/3 in; long; petals ca 2/3 in long, twice as long as the sepals.
