plant caulescent, flowering 1.5 m or higher; stem repent, over 3 dm long, 7 mm in diameter, foliate. leaves to 23 cm long, entire, glabrous above, densely punctulate-lepidote beneath; sheath elliptic, ca 5 cm long, scarcely broader than the blades; blade narrowly subtriangular, attenuate but the extreme apex acute and apiculate, 35 mm wide, flat, green except for a narrow white margin, areolate. inflorescence: peduncle unknown; fertile part very laxly twice-branched, nearly 1 m long, sparsely and minutely white-furfuraceous; primary bracts ovate, acuminate, small, much shorter than the sterile bases of the branches, punctulate-lepidote; branches divergent, very slender, the ultimate ones often secund flowered; floral bracts ovate, acute, 2–3.5 mm long, exceeding the slender pedicels, membranaceous. flowers secund, spreading; sepals lanceolate, obtuse, 6 mm long, thickened at base, ecarinate; petals broadly ovate, cucullate, short-unguiculate, about equaling the sepals, white. stamens included. pistil: ovary very slenderly cylindric, to 18 mm long, slightly superior; styles free.
