Julián Aguirre-Santoro is a botanist and evolutionary biologist dedicated to studying the evolution and taxonomy of Neotropical plants, with a special focus on the family Bromeliaceae. He is currently the Curator of Vascular Plants for Latin America at the Missouri Botanical Garden, where he conducts multiple projects on conservation, taxonomy, and evolution of bromeliads, as well as floristic inventories across the Neotropics.
Dr. Aguirre Santoro completed his doctoral studies at the New York Botanical Garden, his master's degree at the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, and served as an Associate Professor at the National University of Colombia until 2023. Over the course of his career, Dr. Aguirre Santoro has carried out botanical expeditions across the Atlantic Forest of Brazil, the Greater Antilles, and throughout northwestern South America. He has published extensively on the taxonomy, conservation, and evolution of Bromeliaceae.
