How to use the EoB

This Encyclopedia is produced with care using HTML 5 as defined by W3C and nothing more is needed than a decent Internet browser. We advice to use the free FireFox, Crome, or Opera internet browser to get the best results, especially when you encounter problems with Microsoft Internet Exporer (IE or Edge).

The window size is defined for full screen XVGA and you can use F11 key to go to full screen mode (most browsers) and/or use Ctrl+ and Ctrl- to increase or decrease font sizes. Scroll bars will be created automatically if the text exceeds the area for it. On the Title page (F5) you will find an option for "Optimize Window Size" that can be used if you use XVGA (1024x768), it eliminates address & work bars etc. and uses the full screen for data.

When you work from the CD/DVD, you do not need to be online, but if you are, you can use the direct links to Internet resources, for example, Literature references etc.

Something about the index

The left part of screen will be available for Indexes and a small menu will be available below the logo at all times (main - index - synonyms) for the main menu (or press F5), index to species and the full index to all names (including synonyms).
In the full index the green text is pointing out that this is a correct Taxon name (read species), all others are synonym names. A separate index to correct names only is provided, as well as one to illustrated Taxa.

If there is an ' * ' next to the name, this indicates that the Taxon is illustrated with one or more images.

To view all miniature images of all pictures included for a Genus, directly from the index, for a quick identification. For this, you can click on the next to a Genus name in the index. For the genus information, click the genus name left from the camera icon.

Something about the Taxon pages

On a Taxon page (read species) the left and right arrow will navigate to previous and next closest related Taxon, ordered by Taxon number. In this way you will find the directly related Species and infra specific Taxa (varieties & forms) easily.

All green marked text are links to more information on for example synonym names, literature, but it is known that this doesn't work always in Microsoft IE (so download one of the free decent browsers, see above).
