Vriesea rubra ?
Locality: Venezuela - Aragua - rainforest, 1300m, whole plant between 1m and 1,20m
Photographer: Matthias Asmuss
Note: could also be Vriesea elata, but very far away from Venezuelan/Colombian frontier (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
Identification: pending
(Click on the picture to enlarge)
- Add Note: Peter Tristram (2015-01-07) - Maybe T. amicorum (name change pending?). Are the habitat shots the same plant? (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
- Add Note (10312): Matthias Asmuss (2015-01-07) - the plant you see in habitat was taken home in order to cultivate it and wait for it to flower. So, you all can see the pup flowering. T. amicorum is much smaller and has a half pending scape. See my picture in FCBS. (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
- Add Note (10312): Peter Tristram (2015-01-09) - Maybe T. amicorum (name change pending?). Are the habitat shots the same plant? (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
- Add Note (10312): Matthias Asmuss (2015-01-09) - the habitat shots are definitely the same plant cultivated at home (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
- Add Note (10312): Peter Tristram (2015-01-09) - Looks like when I refreshed the page, the message resent - sorry. I still wonder if there are 2 plants involved though - too much difference especially the arrangement of the branches.
- Add Note (10312): Matthias Asmuss (2015-01-10) - Peter, you are a good cultivator, especially from seed, but did you always have the same result as nature produces ? The habitat plant has open branches, but was extracted by me with a "stick". The pup produced a scape where the branches are narrowed. Why ? Light, higher temperature, etc. No promises, but I would like to travel again next month in order to see it flower in its habitat. By the way. Manfred Speckmaier in Vienna has probably the same plant, also with narrowed branches and collected close to "my place". If you wish, tell me more about your seed culture skills.
