- Add Note (2003): Eric J. Gouda (2008-10-08) - This plant is collected by Lotte Hromadnik and in BG Heidelberg collection under the name T.roezlii, but it does not resemple this species because of several characteristics: leaves are narrowly triangular and not very much marked; spikes have distinct stipe; sepals are adaxially connate for 2-5 mm. This is probably a new species.
- Add Note (2003): Harry Luther (2008-10-09) - As far as I can see T. roezlii & piurensis are the same taxon and this could be a luxurient somewhat etiolated cultivated specimen.
- Add Note (2003): Eric J. Gouda (2008-10-09) - Harry, that is interesting. I identified the plant as T. aff. piurensis, with the note that the leaf-sheaths are not castaneous inside; the peduncle is wholly covered by bracts; lower branches are much exceeding the primary bracts; spikes are only 1.5 cm wide (flowering, so fruiting 2 cm could be); floral bracts are not distinctly carinate. So I thought it to be close to this species, but distinct enough not to be likely con-specific. If T.piurensis is conspecific with T.roezlii, it must be a more variable species, so I will keep it with the name T.piurensis until this has been published. Thanks.
- Add Note (2003): Eric J. Gouda (2008-10-09) - Derek pointed me out that T.piurensis already has been synonymized by Kiff 1991, something I could have seen when I had checked my database.
- Add Note (2003): Walter Till (2008-10-09) - Eric, there must be a label confusion or the plant was collected vegetatively under the assumption it would be T. roezlii. The plant in the image is T. purpurascens Rauh
- Add Note (2003): Eric J. Gouda (2008-10-09) - Thanks Walter, an other candidate in this complex. Looking at the description of T.purpurascens, this does resembles T.roezlii (piurensis) a lot and is from the same area, but it seems to be a taller plant with 3 cm wide spikes, free sepals (like T.roezlii, but not T.piurensis) and purple-violet petals. Rauh compared his plant with T. restrepoana, also a tall plant which has a different flower type and unfortunately did not mention T.roezlii nor T.piurensis.
- Add Note (2003): Eric Gouda (2009-02-25) - Walter: Check out casi 1777 and 2003, I think it is both different flower type and habit.
The later has the thin twisted petals and the first the stiff cucullate ones.
Do you think both are the same? - Identification (2003): Walter Till (2009-02-25) =Tillandsia roezlii
- Eric: you are right, this are two different species, one being T. violascens, the other (as previously stated by you) T. roezlii (syn.: piurensis).
