Identification (10255): Matthias Asmuss (2012-08-06) =Tillandsia paucifolia - species that grows in almost every country between Mexico / USA to the north and Colombia / Venezuela to the south (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
Add Note (10255): Uncle Derek (2012-08-07) - First we have to agree that T. paucifolia and intermedia can be split at species level. 20 years ago the Germans saw differences in paudifolia from Guatemala but did nothing other than collate data. In 2007 the Aussies were getting large imports from Guatemala and noticed differences between these and the 'normal' Mexican one. We got Renate Ehlers to bite the bullet and she coined the name paucifoliodes so the name is widespread in Australia even though the name had not been published. We have been waiting 6 years but then this is but a blink of the eye to a taxonomist. So keep the name on the label because it is different AND is needs more tender care (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl)
Add Note (10255): Eric Gouda (2012-08-08) - I have noticed some variation, but not distinctive enough for a new species name
