13682 - Bromeliads (Wild) - 2018-03-13 (Dimension: 2030 x 1550 pixels - Counter: 11550) Pitcairnia bakeri Locality: Ecuador, Zamora-Chinchipe Province - East on road from Los Encuentros toward the Condor mountains. Elevation: 1436 meters. Found along the road near a ditch. Photographer: Jerry Raack Note: These flowers are very large and bright, with petals 6 cm long. I have seen this Pitcairnia before, and it always seems spectacular to me due to the nearly black inflorescence with the bright orange flowers. While the inflorescence of P. barrigae also has orange flowers, they are easily distinguished due to their appearance. (Sent: brom-l@science.uu.nl) (Click on the picture to enlarge) |
