Distribution: BRAZIL. Bahia

Habitat: It grows forming dense heliophylous populations on patches of exposed granite rock in the dry woodland img

Etymology: The epithet chosen is a reference to Prof. Cássio van den Berg, from the State University of Feira de Santana (Herbarium HUEFS), who has been conducting many innovative researches on monocotyledons from inselbergs from central-northeastern Bahia, has trained several taxonomists and has largely contributed to research about the molecular evolution and conservation genetics of several plant families in Brazil. Paratype: Maria Quitéria, serra de São José, 12°15΄S, 38°58΄W, 8 March 2003, C. van den Berg 895, J. R. S. Silva, P. M. Lopes & F. M. Moreira (HUEFS, SP, UFRN).

Phenology: Flowering observed from March-April. Although no specimen was collected in January or February, the holotype was collected on March 1st and it has past flowers, suggesting that the blooming period would have started in those earlier months Distribution So far the species is known only from the central-northeastern portion of the state of Bahia, northeastern Brazil, in the municipalities of Pé de Serra, Tanquinho de Feira, Feira de Santana, and Ipecaetá (Fig. 1).
