Distribution: ECUADOR; Morona Santiago, Zamora Chinchipe

Habitat: high montane forest and bromeliad sward, 1500-3050 m. Elev.

Etymology: This racinaea is named in honor of Alwyn Howard Gentry (1945-1993), a renowned botanist from Missouri Botanical Garden and one of the most knowledgeable botanists of tropical America in the 20th century, who lost his life on August 3, 1993, nine days after collecting this new species. He died in an airplane crash in Ecuador while on a mission to assist in the conservation of the forests of that country.
