Distribution: BRAZIL. Tocantins

Habitat: Terrestrial in scattered colonies in open areas of the dry Cerrado biome, ca 400 m. Elev.

Etymology: The epithet “tocantinense” refers to the area where the type was collected in Tocantins State of Brazil. To assist with field identification of the new species, figures 11-14 show the differences between the blooms of Bromelia tocantinense and 3 similar species growing in the same habitat. Further differences between these species are given in Table 1.
