Habitat: grows only in dense humid subtropical forest In the same areas at 900 m is found V. heterandra (Mez) L.B. Smith, which can be found in all the Amazonian provinces of Ecuador., 1800 m. Elev.

Etymology: The name Vriesea tillii honors Dr. Walter Till, an authority on Ecuadorean bromeliads from the University of Vienna.
