Type: Mexico, Estado Jalisco, near the road from Puerto Vallarta to Manzanillo, about 40 km north of Manzanillo, leg. J. Rutschmann s. n. Cultivated at the University of Utrecht Botanic Garden with number (BOTU) 2013GR00464 and flowered in cultivation October 2013, holotype L, isotype MEXU.

Etymology: The name has derived from the Central Mexican place “Manzanillo”, which is in the state Jalisco.
