Type: BRASIL. RIO GRANDE DO SUL: Julio de Castilhos, 260 m de altitude, saxicola, as margens do rio Toropi, proximo a antiga Usina de Quebra Dentes, 19-IX-2012, fl., H.M. Buneker 101, R.C. Pontes & L. Witeck (Holotipo: HDCF 6278; Isotipo: SMDB 13776; ICN; SP).

Distribution: Brazil: Rio Grande do Sul

Habitat: Exclusively rheophyte, saxicolous on basalt rocky edges of fast flowing rivers, forming hemispherical clumps, 40 cm high getting submerged in flood periods (fig. 2C, 2D and 2E).

Etymology: The specific epithet pays a post-humous tribute to taxonomist, specialist in Bromeliaceae, Dr. Teresia Strehl, a researcher at the Museum of Science of Zoobotanical Foundation of Rio Grande do Sul and author of large number of species of this family in Rio Grande do Sul.

Phenology: Blooms from August to November, fruits from September to December.
