Etymology: This Racinaea is named in honor of Harry E. Luther (1952 - 2012), the late bromeliad expert at Gardens By The Bay, National Parks Board Headquarters, Singapore, author of over 100 species of bromeliads and former director of the Mulford B. Foster bromeliad identification center at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens (SEL), Florida.
