Etymology: During recent years, Maurizia Fatima Carneiro, Biologist and Doctor of Agronomy in the field of vegetable production, has studied native bromeliads and orchids of the Cerrado of Goia State. Her objectives have been to collect, characterise, identify, multiply and maintain in a germplasm bank all the classified species, as well as to determine the protocols for propagation in vitro of all the species with ornamental characteristics. During her studies she also found the plant described here. In honour of her difficult and tiresome work, the authors have the great pleasure to name this unique species after her.
