Habitat: Rupicolous in full exposed, vertical rock surfaces in the domain of the Atlantic Forest of Castelo, ca. 1100 m. Elev.

Etymology: The specific name of Tillandsia castelensis is a reference to the county of Castelo, Espírito Santo, where it was originally discovered.
