Etymology: Cryptanthus felixii was named in honor of botanist Leonardo Pessoa Felix, Curator of the Jayme Coelho de Moraes Herbarium (FAN) at Paraiba Federal University in Areia, for his outstanding contribution to studies on the cytotaxonomy of plants in the Northeast.
