Habitat: found in low forest, shrubs or small trees growing on flat plateau composed of silica, where the development of plants is limited by the soil deficiency., 1000-1200 m. Elev.

Etymology: The species this dedicated to Dr. Elton Leme, authority on the Bromeliaceae of Brazil.
