Etymology: The name of this new species honours its collector, Dr. Luigi Buscalioni (1863 - 1954) who travelled Amazonian Brazil from 1899 to 1900. Buscalioni was assistant at the Instituto Botanico dell' Universita di Roma the two years before his Brazilian journey about which he reported in Boll. Soc. Georgr. Ital.ser. 4(1901). Later he was professor at Sassari, Catania, and Palermo. In his final years he was director of the Instituto Botanico dell' - Universita di Bologna and of its botanical garden. His tropical herbarium is housed at RO.
