Etymology: The species is named after the collectors, brothers Marcos and Márcio Grossi. The Grossi brothers are collectors of terrestrial bromeliads, in Teófilo Otoni and Governor Valadares and have been contributing to horticulture through the introduction to cultivation of interesting native bromeliads of Minas Gerais.
