Habitat: 50 to at least 900 m. Elev.

Etymology: The Latin term exiguus means "scanty", "small", "short" or "narrow", alluding to the delicate habit of this species, whose leaves are much narrower than those of typical members of the genus Canistrum, where it was originally located.

Phenology: flowers from November to February
