Distribution: VENEZUELA; Amazonas,

Habitat: 150 m. Elev.

Etymology: A review of Brocchinia epithets reveals that several other noted explorers of the Guayana Shield have been honored (e.g., B. steyermarkii L.B. Sm., B. maguirei L.B. Sm., B. cowanii L.B. Sm., & B. hitchcockii L.B. Sm.), so it is fitting that Wurdack's name be included in this phytogeographically and floristically important genus. Although John Wurdack did not collect the type specimen of B. wurdackiana, he did make an important expedition with Lincoln Adderley on the Siapa River in 1959, the only known locality for B. wurdackiana.
