Phenology: Aechmea aquilega flowers during the dry season, from September to March, and is typically ornithophilous. It is pollinated by resident hummingbirds like Phaethornis gounellei at the Raso da Catarina Ecological Station in Bahia (J. A. Siqueira, pers. obs.).
