Etymology: From the Latin utriculosus meaning "provided with utricles", that is, with vases or tanks, the name given to N utriculosum refers to its leaves that form a tank constricted at the apex ("foliis rosulatis, utriculum apice constrictum formantia").

Phenology: This specimen flowers in November while the protologue mentions a flowering period in March and April.
