Type: Venezuela. Territory of Amazonas: Dept. Atures, Rio Sipapo, 4-5 km above the mouth of the Rio Guayapo, Laja granitica Zamuro, 4° 30' N., 67° 30' W, 80-100 m elev. Collected Feb. 21,1985, flowered under cultivation in Maracay, Venezuela, 27 May 1988, G. Carnevali & I. Ramirez 2653 (Holotype VEN). Paratype: (same locality as the holotype) 21 Feb. 1985. F. Guanchez, G. Carnevali & E. Melgueiro 3959 (TFAV). (Sterile specimen).

Habitat: 80-100 m. Elev.

Etymology: We name this species in honor of Emidgio Melgueiro, former assistant at the herbarium Territorio Federal Amazonas Venezuela (TVAS) whose knowledge of the flora of southern Venezuela has been valuable on many botanical expeditions.
