Dyckia coccinea is a synonym of:

<- Dyckia tuberosa (Vell.) Beer

Publ: Fam. Bromel. 157 (1856)

Type: Vellozo s n, lost, if any specimen were ever made. Typification is on the basis of the description and plate, especially the latter. The only locality data, "Habitat maritimis ac mediterraneis," is very vague but could include Pharmacopolis, the present Parati, frequently cited by Vellozo. Although there is no definite record yet of Dyckia tuberosa from the state of Rio de Janeiro, Angra dos Reis is on the coast and bordering the state of Sao Paulo, where the species has been collected only a short distance away at Serra da Cunha.
