- OBSERVATIONS. P. cofanorum is a terrestrial in primary forests, where it grows in small isolated groups. The leaves are few, with a subpetiole that narrows slightly then widens into the leaf blade. The flowers are red-violet, almost black, like the flowers of P. alata var. andreetae. The corolla is zygomorphic and its flowers remain erect after anthesis. —See Manzanares 2005
