A Report On The Plants Of The Phelps Cerro Yavi Expedition Of 1947

Abstract:—The following is a report on the plants collected by Mrs. William H. Phelps, Jr. and Mr. C. B. Hitchcock' on Cerro Yavi. The expedition to this Venezuelan table, mountain, organized primarily for the study and collection of the avifauna of the plateau and surrounding area, was conducted by Mir. William H. Phelps, Jr., prominent student of Venezuelan bird life. Cerro Yav;, rising to an altitude of 2285 m., is one of the numerous high and remote sandstone mesas of Venezuelan Guayana. It lies in headwaters of the Ventuari-Manapiare Rivers, tributaries of the Orinoco, nearly a hundred miles northward from Mt. Duida. Thus Yavi is in the western portion of the Guayana Hinterland and might be expected floristically to be associated with Cerro Duida, and Cerro Sipapo....
