Taxonomy:Navia albiflora Considered a synonym of Navia pauciflora L.B. Sm. (p.620).—Navia delascionis Listed as synonym of Navia berryana L.B.Sm. (syn. nov.) (p.613).—Navia diffusa Steyerbromelia neblinae B. Holst nom. nov. for this name (p.655).—Navia igneosicola Considered close to Navia arida L.B.Sm. & Steyerm., but as a species to its own right (p.616).—Pepinia breweri Listed as synonym of Pitcairnia armata Maury The type collection of Pitcairnia breweri and collections from northwestern Bolivar state tend to have broader, thinner, more glabrescent leaves and slightly longer pedicels, but there is a continual gradient from typical P. armata to the P. breweri form. (p.641).—Pitcairnia orchidifolia There is some confusion as to the proper application of this name; the original description indicates that all of the leaves are alike, but more recent collections identified as this species have reduced, spiny, outer leaves. It is possible that the type collection (Pittier 8931, US, VEN) is incomplete or that the more recent collections are incorrectly identified. (p.644).
