Abstract:—Exploration of the Brazilian interior was long hampered by lack of infrastructure, and was particularly difficult for European explorers. But by the early 1970s Eddie had already intensively explored the southwestern part of his home state, Goiás, the most central of the Brazilian states, and adjacent areas toward the southwest in what is now Mato Grosso do Sul, looking for new cacti. He had also rather casually collected succulent and xeromorphic bromeliads from rocky habitats, but most of those remained unidentified for many years, or even decades, and so, without realizing it, he had discovered a number of new species. One of these is a handsome, compact rosette of green succulent leaves found in the Serra da Bemvinda ( Esteves 366 ).
