German title:—Auf der Spur einer großen Unbekannten: Tillandsia carnosa var. boliviensis aus Mecapaca, Bolivien

Abstract:—In 1998, I flew to Bolivia to visit my family living there and to explore the country. In addition to longer trips through the highlands, which have been reported on before (Seringer 2022, 2023), I also took the time to explore the nearby surroundings of La Paz. One important destination was Mecapaca. This small town is located south of La Paz, as you follow the river of the same name, on which the Bolivian seat of government is located, into the deeper valleys. I knew the name of the place from the literature, but at first I didn‘t know what to expect. Mecapaca comes up again and again when dealing with the flora of the region. From the large number of plants collected there, I assumed a quite high species density.
