Abstract:—In 2017 I relocated from my hometown in Hamburg, Germany to live in London, England - a paradise of exotic plants as it turns out. Due to inner-city microclimates and the mild winters shaped by the Gulf Stream, you will find an amazing number of plants that you would not necessarily expect at this latitude: house-high yuccas, bananas, Canary date palms and fuchsias are very common. I now live in Margate on the south-east coast of England and here I also find a large number of exotic plants. However, I never thought of cultivating bromeliads in the garden all year round. Over the years I have visited many of the English and Scottish botanical gardens. The most impressive are to be found in Cornwall in my opinion, but there are also some great gardens along the Scottish west coast. There I found all sorts of planted bromeliads; mostly Fascicularia and Puya, but also Billbergia, Ochagavia, Aechmea, Tillandsia and Pitcairnia.
