Abstract:—In 1998 we got a plant from the late Jürgen Lautner (B.G. Göttingen) with the name Tillandsia erubescens var. arroyoensis Weber & Ehlers (in Weber 1983). When it first flowered, I suspected it to be a hybrid of T. schiedeana Steudel (1841) and T. baileyi Rose ex Small because of its bicolored petals, which are violet and yellow. Tillandsia schiedeana can have bicolored petals itself (Fig. 5), yellow and colouring reddish toward the base of the exserted part. Then T. chapalillaensis Ehlers & Lautner (2011) was described that has a similar inflorescence and I assumed that it was this new species.
